FCC Releases USF/ICC NPRM
As anticipated, the FCC released the Universal Service and Intercarrier Compensation NPRM on February 9, 2011. The NPRM proposes both short-term and long-term plans for both programs. These proposals are focused on four key principles: 1) Modernizing USF and ICC to support broadband networks, 2) Ensuring fiscal responsibility, 3) Demanding accountability, and 4) Enacting market-driven and incentive-based policies.

Verizon's Home Phone Connect Latest Assault on Wireline

Verizon Wireless is beginning to market a wireline voice replacement product, Home Phone Connect, which allows customers to port their home phone number to Verizon Wireless. With Home Phone Connect, subscribers connect their home phones directly to the Home Phone Connect device, and bypass the PSTN for their home phone service, using Verizon's wireless network to complete calls. Obviously, wireless coverage becomes an issue.
